Despite being a major underdog, Ben Rothwell took it to Alistair Overeem last night (Sept. 5, 2014) at UFC Fight Night 50 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Ben Rothwell went to war in order to move into title contention last night (Sept. 5, 2014) at UFC Fight Night 50 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Overeem came into this bout coming off of a safe but fairly dull decision victory over Frank Mir. With brutal power and dangerous submissions, Overeem’s nasty offensive skills usually make him quite entertaining. Though Overeem is known for his porous defense, many fans expected him to put it all together under the tutelage of Greg Jackson, his new coach, en route to a potential match ups with Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. Ben Rothwell was something of an after-thought.

Not to Big Ben, of course. Rothwell brought a new confidence into the Octagon with him, partially due to his vicious knockout over Brandon Vera in his last appearance. Looking to break his streak of alternating wins and losses, Rothwell was fearless in his attack of The Reem.
